HICKSON, LOUISE CORNWELL, 93, longtime resident of the Redlands, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at South Miami Hospital, with her family by her side. Mrs. Hickson was born on September 27, 1921, in the Rowell Community of Chester County, South Carolina. She was the youngest of seven children born to Sidney J. Cornwell and Eula Glasscock Cornwell. She was a graduate of Rock Hill High School and Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC. During World War II, she was employed at the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte, NC. On December 23, 1945, she married John Spottswood Hickson, and she moved to her husband's town of Miami, FL. Together they owned and operated an avocado and mango grove that is still in production. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003 after 58 years of marriage. Mrs. Hickson is survived by her four children: Margaret H. Britton and husband Col. Ernest B. all of Chester, SC; Mary H. Hunt and husband John C. Hunt of Fairport, NY; John Spottswood Hickson, Jr. and Ann Cornwell Hickson, both of Miami, FL. Surviving grand-children include James L. Britton, II, John Spottswood Britton, John C. Hunt, II, William Cornwell Hunt, Roger R. Britton, Julia B. Banks, and Janene H. Britton. Graveside services were held on September 28, 2015 at Woodlawn South Cemetery, Miami, FL. Memorial donations may be made to Thornwell Home & School for Children, PO Box 60, Clinton, SC 29325.
