Sacramento Valley Mirror Wed. Aug 5, 2015:

Vila Jean "Jeannie" Barnes died in Willows on Thursday, July 30, 2015. She was born in Weed on Feb. 18, 1950.
She attended school in Weed and graduated in 1968. During her lifetime, she was a waitress, beautician, instructor of cosmetology, ran her own beautician parlors, and was co-owner of the taxi service, Jimmie's Cab.
At one time a group of senior citizens in Willows gave her the label, "Bridge Over Troubled Waters."
She was also known by many children in Willows as "Grandma Jeannie." She was known by everyone for her extreme generosity, sincere smile and laughter, and her keen, sometimes "salty" personality.
One friend of many years said, "When Jeannie met someone for the first time, she became that person's best friend." Another long time friend said, "It's impossible to know Jeannie and not love her."
The family of Jeannie has a sincere appreciation for the people of hospice. "We don't know enough beautiful words to express our gratitude," they say "whatever their salary, it's not enough."
The family extends a very special thank you to Ann and Heather Short for making Jeannie as comfortable as possible towards the end. "It will never be forgotten," they say.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; sons Dennis and Steve; daughter Carmen Lopez; sister Sally Acquistopace; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Sadie Gilliam; and brothers Charles Davis and Jim, Jack and Joe Dee Gilliam.
A celebration of life is planned for 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, at the Elks Lodge in Willows, followed by a pot luck. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jeannie's name to the Cancer Society.
