Obit from Salt Lake Tribune dated 25, 26 Dec 2003: "Velma Covington Spencer Read 1922 - 2003 - Our treasured Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend, Velma C. Read passed away December 21, 2003 of natural causes. Velma was born February 21, 1922 in Torrey, Utah to Nathan Daniel Covington and Leona Heath Covington. She was raised in Grover, Utah. Velma married Burle V. Spencer on December 24, 1938, they later divorced. She married Clarence P. Read on January 21, 1961. They resided in West Valley, where they worked side-by-side building and installing custom kitchen cabinets in many new homes in the area. She will be remembered for her tidy house and yard, and for the numerous crochet items that she made. Especially the handmade Christmas ornaments that adorn the holiday trees of all her family. Velma enjoyed camping, hunting, boating and fishing with friends and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brothers, Clarin Covington, Sheryl Covington, Dee Covington and Darrell Covington; sister, Melba Leiter; daughters, Nancy V. Bullock, Judy (Jack) Larsen; son, Bruce (Debbie) Spencer, both of West Valley City; stepsons, Jack (Gay) Read, Rockville, Utah, Richard C. (Collean) Read, St. George, Utah; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 4335 West 4100 South on Saturday, December 27, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at a viewing one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A graveside service will follow at the American Fork Cemetery, 40 West 600 North, American Fork, Utah. Funeral Directors: Valley View Funeral Home."
