Amy was Born 2nd of May, 1878, in Bleanevon, England to John and Amy Pitman. The family first emigrated to Canada living there for around seven years then migrated with thier children to Winter Quarters Utah.

Winter Quarters at the time was very primitive, most of the homes were merely dugouts in the mountain side. Just three years after arriving in Utah Amy's mother (Amy Pitman) at the age of twenty-eight died leving her husband and five small children. Little Amky then nearly ten years old was shuffled from one relative to another for the next 9 years. When Amy was nineteen she married Edwin T. Street. A year later they had a baby girl they named Sarah and a year later a second daughter they named Gladys.

Amy and Edwin were expecting their third child when on the 1st of May 1900, her husband ,Edwin Street, her father, John Pitman and other male relatives entered the number four mine at Winter Quarters for the last time. The bodies of her husband, uncle and cousins were brought to the mine's entrance and accounted for. but it wasn't until August that her father's body was found and brought from the mine. Tragedy struck a second time in August 1900 when her young daughter Gladys died. In October she gave birth to the baby she had been carring through these difficult times and name her Edna.

On the 17 th of February, 1901, Amy married John C. Staley. He had come to Scofield in 1886 and was employed as a barn foreman at the Winter Quarters Mine. They became the parents of four children: Agnes, Amy, Delie and John. They lived in Winter Quarters until John took over the Kimball ranch in Scofield, where they resided until John retired in 1946.
In Jan 1930 her daughter Amy, lost her husband, Gustf Helsten in a Hiawatha mine accident. The doors of the Staley home were opened to Their daughter , Amy and her three small children, Jack, Amy and Colleen. When her daughter Amy died in 1940, Amy & John did their best to fill the vacancy of the departed parents.
John's death preceded Amy's by 11 months, Amy died on 20 February 1962
