He was educated in the public schools of Richland County, South Carolina, graduating from Eau Claire High School, Class of 1983. As a youngster, Willie immediately became interested in sports. He would play catch in the yard with his father, who loved baseball. He grew up to be a well-rounded, two-sport athlete who played football and baseball at Greenview Park. Following high school, he earned a baseball scholarship from Benedict College.
He also served his country in the Armed Forces. He graduated from Kenneth Shuler Schools of Cosmetology and was a dedicated, self-employed barber who loved his craft and was loved by his clients and his co-workers.
Growing up in a family of strong Christian values, Willie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Pine Grove Independent Church in Ridgeway, South Carolina where he was an active member of the kitchen ministry. He served as a sponsor and mentor at the Morris Village Alcohol and Drug Addiction Treatment Center. He also, ministered to others within the community.
Willie leaves to cherish his fond and precious memory: his two children, Alexa of Hopkins, SC and Tre’-Don Kobe of Saluda, SC; his parents; Willie and Earline Manning of Columbia, SC; one brother Barry (Kennetha) Manning of Stone Mountain, GA; two sisters, Sharline (Thomas) Brown of Blythewood, SC and Jalawnda (Jermaine) Davis of Hopkins, SC; five nephews: Daryl (Tiffanie), Barry Jr., JaKobe, Carlos and Jamon; four nieces: Kyla, Kennedi, Kassidy and Aleigha; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other loving relatives and caring friends, all of whom will miss him dearly
