Dr. Elizabeth Catherine Bagshaw was born in Mariposa Township and was one of Canada's first female doctors. She was involved with the opening of Canada's first birth control clinic in 1932. She was medical director of this clinic for thirty years and in 2007 was inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.
