ASTORIA -- Gertrude B. Hammond, 81, of Rural Route 2 died at 8 p.m. Monday, July 21, 1997, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Born Oct. 1, 1915, in Avon to Ennis and Myrtle Bartlett Bartlett, she married Lawrence Lester Hammond on Oct. 29, 1932. He died March 7, 1973.

She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Tarvin, one sister, two brothers, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Maloney and Betty Hyde, both of Bushnell, and Beverly Cox of Peoria; two sons, Bill of Bardolph and Jim of Astoria; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; four sisters, JoAnne Leggi of Phoenix, Ariz., Marylin Brown of Texas, and Phyllis Ford and Margie Vorhees, both of Bardolph; and two brothers, Jim Bartlett and Eldi Lee Bartlett, both of Bushnell.

She was a cook at Astoria Healthcare Center, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Astoria Christian Church.

Graveside services with burial of cremains will be Saturday at Astoria Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria is in charge of arrangements.
