Barbara Newton Welch, age 88, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Madison Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
Born March 13, 1932 in Estill County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Wilgus and Addie Witt Newton and a member of Station Camp Christian Church where she also was the pianist. Barbara owned and operated Bob's Supermarket for 44 years, She was also a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club and a member of the Estill County Homemakers. She loved her community and helped develop the Monarch butterfly way station in Estill County.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Welch.
She is survived by her son, Robert M Welch Jr.; one daughter, Susan Tipton; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services officiated by Bro. Scott Beauchamp will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 21, 2020 at Lewis-Abner Funeral Home in Irvine. Visitation begins at 12:00 Noon, Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery with Oliver Welch, Jeff Renner, David Newton, Anthony Newton, Seth Newton and Jonathan Newton serving as active pallbearers.
