Ernest LaVerne, the youngest child of Jake and Zena (Stolle) Frohling, was born February 24, 1927, on the Frohling family farm near Hecla. He attended local schools and then worked for area farmers until 1945, when he began farming with his brother, Walter. He was united in marriage to Elaine Vitense on May 22, 1949, at the Vitense home near Columbia. Bud continued to help on the farm until 1985, when he went to work for Cenex. He was later employed as a salesman for Hecla Implement for 14 years before retiring.
Bud and Elaine enjoyed spending summers at Clear Lake, where they have wonderful memories and made long-lasting friendships. Bud loved woodworking and especially enjoyed working in his woodshop in Hecla after his retirement. Through his woodworking abilities, he left many keepsakes that illustrate his love for his family. All of his family will cherish these gifts of love.
Bud was a lifelong member of Peace Lutheran Church and a board member of the Federal Land Bank.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; five children: Larry, Gayle, Lloyd, Joel, Ken and Denise; two sisters: Louise Babb and Valera Deusel; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: John, Everett and Walter; three sisters: Tena Widstrom, Frances West and Angela Frohling; a son-in-law, Kevin “Wally” Krueger; and a nephew, Norman Frohling.
