Mrs. Marilyn Neathery McCluen, age 98, passed away August 8, 2016 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. She was born to the late John and Sephia Neathery on April 6, 1918 in Oakdale, Tennessee, and lived most of her life in Roane County. An inquisitive person, Marilyn was always eager to learn and try new things. A talented artist, she learned to paint with pastels, oils and watercolors. She also enjoyed working with ceramics, and created heirloom Christmas manger scenes and hundreds of lovely Christmas ornaments for her family. Her beautiful needlepointwork and hand sewn, one-of-a-kind quilts attest to her skills and creativity. She cherished the friendships she made while a member of the Tennessee Valley Machine Knitters. Being very interested in genealogy, she traced her family tree back to the Revolutionary War. She was instrumental in forming the Roane County Historical Society, and worked tirelessly for the preservation and restoration of the old Roane County Courthouse in Kingston. The first Roane County Historian, she was a founding member of the Avery Trace Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and served on the Bicentennial Committee for the city ofRockwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, attorney and Criminal Court Judge Lloyd G. McCluen, and her daughter, Leann Smith. She is survived by her son, W. Glenn McCluen and daughter-in-law Martha; her grand daughter Kristi Smith Cramer and husband Terry; and her great granddaughter, Samantha Cramer. And although he may technically not be a relative by blood or marriage, Marilyn and the rest of the family considered Mike Foust to be like an “adopted” grandson. The family would like to thank Manorhouse Assisted Living for their kindness and excellent care. Arrangements are as Follows Funeral Services will be held at 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, August 11, 2016 in the sanctuary of First Christian Church, Rockwood, with Rev.
