Leslie was a son of William Walter Bush and Virginia "Jennie" Huston Bush. His true middle name is now believed to be "Sammon" which was his 3x grandmother Hannah Bush's maiden name. It appears as "Salmon" in his hand written WWI draft registration. After his father's death, he began using 'William' as his first name.
He came to Oklahoma Indian Territory in the Land Rush of 1889, along with his parents, his brother Sam Bland & his 3 sisters Nellie Mae, Bessie Blanch & Mary Green.
Leslie found work in state government and ultimately served on the State Board of Agriculture under Gov. William C. Rentfrow. His sister Nellie and her husband George Livingstone Mayhew had a daughter, Virginia, who was attending Oklahoma University in Norman, OK. Leslie arranged for the local college in Goodwell, OK to be certified as a Oklahoma Panhandle State University so Virginia would be willing to live on the family farm near Goodwell without sacrificing a four year college degree.
He married Jodie Alta Green they a son William Walter Bush II, and he adopted Jodie's child Joleen Ellen Wylie from her previous marriage. William was in his teens when Leslie died.
