OBITUARY :
MRS. NANCY HARTMAN (EASTON) MATTHEWS, 89, a resident of the Brethren Home at New Oxford and formerly of 11753 Anthony Highway, Waynesboro, PA, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015 in York Hospital, York, PA.

Born December 4, 1925 in Baltimore, MD, she was the daughter of the late Fred J. and Claudia J. (Hartman) Easton. She spent most of her life in the Waynesboro area.

Mrs. Matthews was a graduate of Washington Township High School with the Class of 1943.

She and her husband, the late Mr. James Edward "Buck" Matthews, Jr., were married May 30, 1943 in Hagerstown, MD. He passed away March 28, 2010.

Following her graduation, Mrs. Matthews was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, PA. While her husband was stationed in San Diego, CA, she worked for the Naval Training Station. After returning to Waynesboro, she was employed at Regency Thermographers for a number of years. Prior to her retirement in 1985, she was the cashier at Mowery Elementary School, Waynesboro.

She was a member of Grace Brethren Church, Waynesboro and King's Daughters Sunday School Class, National AARP and CBN.

Mrs. Matthews enjoyed traveling, knitting, crocheting, sewing and cooking.

She is survived by two children, Claudia M. Clemens of Hanover, PA and Fred J. Matthews of State College, PA; her daughter-in-law, Joyce Matthews; four grandchildren, Cara Sullivan and her husband, David, Jerod Phillips, Bradley Matthews and Marie Matthews; two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Addison Sullivan; one niece, Chris Hovis; one nephew, Jeff Hovis; and two great-nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, James E. "Jimmy" Matthews, III who passed away July 25, 1977 at the age of 32; and one sister, Jeanne E. Hovis who passed away March 4, 2011.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, August 1, 2015 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro with Pastor Larry Weber and Pastor Timothy Clothier officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Grace Brethren Church, 250 Philadelphia Avenue, Waynesboro, PA 17268 or Waynesboro Easter Seals, 626 North Grant Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
