He was born June 9, 1941 a son of the late Orval and Mamie Pennington Chewning.
On December 21, 1963 he married the love of his life Regina "Tiddles" Cutright who was the daughter of Julya and Berthel Cutright.
They had celebrated fifty one years of marriage together.
Also surviving is one daughter, Julie Ann Lepore and husband Nick of Charlotte, NC, one beloved granddaughter, Alexis Natalia Mejia of Charlotte, NC who was the light of his life and his Border Collie, Romeo, who was his loyal and constant companion; three sisters, Gleneva "Tomi" Zickefoose of Waynsville, OH, Arabelle Thomason of Queens, WV, Shelia Hodges of Buckhannon, WV and two brothers, Orval Chewning of Franklin, OH and James Chewning of Conway PA.
Brothers-in-law, Mike Cutright, Margel Zickefoose, Leroy Chewning and numerous others, sisters-in-law, Janet Cutright, Susie Whitehead and numerous others also survive.
Also preceding him in death was one infant son, Robert Vincent Chewning, II, two sisters, Betty Herron and Virginia Colleen Husslein and four brothers-in-law, George Herron, Wayne Husselein, Gilbert Thomason and John Hodges.
Robert was a retired coal miner and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 31.
He was a member of Randolph Lodge No. 55, A.M. & F.M. of Beverly.
He enjoyed Nascar Racing and was a Kyle Busch fan, tinkering with his Chevy S10 pickup trucks and gardening.
Friends may call from 12:00 noon until 2:00 pm Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday from the funeral home chapel with Rev. Stella Faye Moyer officiating.
Interment will follow in the Rowan Memorial Cemetery near Mabie where Randolph Lodge No 55 AF & AM will conduct ritualistic graveside rites.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Randolph County Humane Society, PO Box 785, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mr. Chewning.
