Richard "Rick" Franklin Mooney was born September 11, 1944, in Tulsa, to Bert Franklin Mooney and Geraldine E. "Jerry" (Pendergraft) Mooney.

A distinguished graduate of Sperry High School, Rick attended Michigan State University on an academic scholarship. Rick answered the call to duty and served in the United States Air Force during Viet Nam era and achieved the rank of Sergeant.

During his military service in Germany, Rick met Gisela E. Strahlendorff with whom he wed in 1965. They were married for 31 years before "Gigi" passed away.

Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Air Force Rick returned to college and graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.S. degree in Physics and M.S. degree in Geophysics. He worked for many years in oil and gas business as engineer and geoscientist and as a supervisor and engineer for American Airlines for eighteen years.

Later in life Rick met and married Barbara Lackey in 1997 and they lived in Sand Springs. Rick retired from both Amoco and American Airlines.

Rick was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved training and hunting with his beloved German Shorthaired Pointer, Rod.

Survived by wife, Barbara; son Steve and wife Debbie Mooney of Tulsa; daughter, Susan and husband Ken Woodley of Hayesville, N.C.,; daughter, Katherine Lackey of Tulsa; and daughter, Elizabeth and husband Jake Jelich of Fort Worth, Texas; three grandchildren, Stephanie Mooney, Robert Miller and John Jelich III.

He is proceeded in death by his first wife Gisela, and son Sean Douglas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 28, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Chapel in Tulsa. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 28, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
