He was the son of William Eli and Addie A. Whitney, who were among the first homesteaders of that community. He was one of ten children, seven having preceded him in death.
On Aug. 23, 1899 he was unit3d in marriage to Mabel Grace Dooley of Munden, KS. To this union was born five children, three of whom are still living. They are [Ina] Gladys Wolkins and Ray of Tabor and and Kenneth of Concordia, KS. Lloyd, the oldest son, preceded him in death in 1952. The wife and mother passed away Feb. 16, 1944.
The family moved from Kansas to Tabor in 1920. He was engaged in farming and dairying throughout his life.
On June 8, 1945 he was united in martiage to Elizabeth Rusher Howard, who preceded him in death in April 1955.
On Nov 26, 1953 he suffered a stroke and had been bedfast since that time, being cared for at the Good Samaritan Rest Home.
On Jan. 2, complications set in, and he was cared for at the Hamburg Hospital until the end.
Survivors include three children, five step-children, 28 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren and two sisters.
He was converted at an early age and was a member of the local church of the Nazarene.
Services were held at the Nazarene Church on Thursday, Jan 10 at 2 PM with the Revs Irving Mitchell and Paul Worcester officiating. Internment was at the Tabor Cemetery.
