While we are mourning the passing of our dear friend and sweet Aunt Irene, others are having a joyous reunion with her behind the veil. Irene Margaret Salmon Johnson, 90, passed peacefully on July 20, 2015 in Bountiful.
Irene was born March 19, 1925 in Mesa, Arizona to John Homer Salmon and Margaret Phoebe White Salmon. After graduating from East High in 1944, Irene served an LDS mission to Mexico (1946-1948).
She worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for twelve years after which she attended BYU, graduating with a BA in elementary ed and a minor in Spanish. Her education and love for children served her well as she taught in the Huntington Beach City School District until her retirement.
Irene married Cecil M. Johnson on December 20, 1969; they were later sealed in the Los Angeles LDS Temple. Irene had five step-children, many step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was adored by all of her extended family members who knew they were always welcome to visit her home, first in California and later at her home in Las Vegas. She always treated her guests to delicious, home cooked meals, and gracious hospitality.
Irene was a lifelong, active member of the LDS Church.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, seven brothers, and four half siblings, including Alma (Phil) McGarvey, Cleo (William) Yonkers, E. Glen (Velma) Evans, and E. Mary (Bill) Kohler; and brothers, Alvin F. (Erma), Salmon, Melvin John (Gail) Salmon, Orville J. (Mary Jane) Salmon, Eugene M. (Betty Jean) Salmon, Jerry I. (Ruth) Salmon, Dean E. (Sharon) Salmon, and William (Bill) H. (Doris) Salmon.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2015, with a viewing prior at 9:30 a.m. Services will be held in the Greenfield Ward Building, 1298 North 400 West, Centerville.
Interment at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
