Karen was a lifelong learner. She held degrees from Meridian High School, University of Southern Mississippi and Mississippi State University. She worked for most of her 37-year career as an educator at Southeast Elementary School. After retiring, she became a teacher consultant with the National Geographic Society and spent many hours visiting schools presenting lessons with huge maps to promote geographic education.

Karen was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Alpha Delta Kappa, and Lifetime Quest at Meridian Community College. She served for several years as the chairman for the annual Trees of Christmas at Merrehope and served as the president of the Roundtable Club. She gave of herself freely through many volunteer hours with Merrehope, Meridian Main Street, MSU Riley Center, Keep America Beautiful and the Soule’ Steam Festival. Karen had a very kind, unselfish heart and always wore a smile. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She lived by the motto, “If you invite me, I’ll go!” She will be missed by her many friends and family. Karen loved to travel and enjoy their company.
