Susan Elizabeth Fields Sparks Jones, 46, of Spencer, lost her battle for life on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at IU Health-Bloomington Hospital. Susan was born in Beech Grove, Indiana to Annie Bright and James Fields, Jr. She graduated from Owen Valley High School in 1987 where she enjoyed participating in Marching Band and Guard. She attended Vincennes University and Ivy Tech. She spent many years working at Stonebelt caring for adults with disabilities and later worked providing home health services for the elderly. Susan was a loving, nurturing woman. Her nurturing spread to cover all living things, especially animals. Helping with the 4-H Dog Club when her daughter was a member gave Susan much pleasure. She also gained so much returning to the OVHS Marching Band and Guard program as a “Guard Mom” while her daughter followed in her footsteps. Caring for an orphaned animal or bird was a frequent event in her life. She had a green thumb and loved growing flowers and vegetables. Sitting around a campfire gave her some of her happiest moments. She loved traveling and painting. Susan was proud of her Miami and Choctaw heritage and participated in pow-wows often.

She loved her two children, Elizabeth, age 24, and Dalton, age six, with all her heart and fought illness valiantly to live for them. Sadly, her kind heart could not continue the battle. She leaves behind her children, Elizabeth Sparks of Bloomington, and Dalton Jones of Spencer; her parents, Annie Bright and James Fields, Jr., both of Poland; her brothers, Chris Fields of Poland and Jim Fields III (Kellie) and two nieces, Isabelle and Amelia, of Chesterton, Indiana. Her aunts, Becky Schrock (John), Bridget Rode, and Linda Bright will miss her greatly. The family wants to thank her close friend, Bonnie Provines for all her love and support to Susan and the family through the struggle.

A celebration of Susan’s life will be held later. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Owen County Humane Society or to a fund for Dalton at the Owen County Art Guild.
