The idea that her father was Rev. George Phippen 1584-1650 and mother was Joan Rie Penrose 1589-1650 may have came from the book "The Ancestors and Descendants of Sarah Eleanor Ladue", in which the will of Rev. George Phippen was erroneously interpreted to state that 3 of the 6 sisters named in his will (Margaret, Eleanor, and Jane) of John Catcher (his brother-in-law that was married to the Maragaret Pye, sister of his first wife Joan Pye) were his daughters. Rev. George Phippen died without any surviving direct descendants. There are no records of his having any children. There were several contemporary George Phippens, including a George Phippen and wife Joane located in Weare, Somerset, England, who had several children (no Jane), but they were 150 miles from Truro where Rev. George Phippen was living. Jane Pinckney, who married Philip Pinckney, was not the daughter of Rev. George Phippen, and her surname is still unknown.

Her children were John Pinckney 1642-1725 2.Abigail Pinckney 1644-1697 3.:Lady Rachel Pinckney 1646-1694 4.William Pinckney 1648-1732 5.Elizabeth Pinchney 1660-1740 6. Thomas Pinckney 1662-1732 7.
