my brother Richard developed Type I Diabetes at 13 or 14 years of age. he was the only Type I in our family until I discovered it runs in my father's side in W Va, Type II runs on the Italian side.
his diabetes was very difficult to control, partly because glucometers were not available in the 1960s partly because he was a teenager.
he had volunteered for an early pancreas transplant and the anti-rejection drugs gave him osteoporosis with many bone breaks.
he had a stroke and was not regaining consciousness nor able to breathe on his own on March 24th
he died after we took him off life support per his living will on March 25th and he expired on the 25th.
he was cremated and when our mother Santina Carmela Infante Fields passed I put his ashes in her coffin and had a dual Roman Catholic funeral.
