Camille Mitchell Carroll died peacefully on July 15, 2006, under the loving care of her family and the staff at Christopher House of Hospice Austin. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. A private commitment service will be at the Texas State Cemetery on Friday, July 21, followed at 2:30 by a memorial service and reception at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3208 Exposition Boulevard, Austin.

Camille was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Arthur Leonard and Mary Edna Boothe Mitchell. She graduated from Waco High School in 1940 and then Baylor University, and in 1943, she married Joe Robert Carroll of Palestine. Camille and Joe lived and raised a family in Palestine, Austin, and Snyder. In 1974, they returned to Austin when Joe was appointed to the Texas Water Rights Commission.

Curious, witty, and involved in the world around her, Camille touched the lives of many friends, young and old, who visited her for interesting conversation and advice. She was creative and resourceful, finding ways to remain independent despite illness and disability. Camille created a charming environment in her home with her beloved antiques and collectibles, especially enjoying decorating for Christmas.

Camille was preceded in death by her husband, Joe, in 1982; and her sister, Doris Smith, of Waco, who died January 9, 2006.

Survivors include her son, Bob Carroll and his wife, Pamela, of Austin; daughters, Mary Ellen Boydstun and her husband, Dwaine, of Austin, and Tobin Dee Wangerin and her husband, Steve, of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; grandchildren: Frank Carroll and Hannah Carroll Knight, both of Austin, and Hayley, Peter, Molly, and Brad Tobin, all of Thousand Oaks, California.
