Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa, with Rev. Ray Mitchell, Pastor of Praise Center Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be at Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery, where full military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 6:45 p.m.
Samuel was born on May 6, 1927 in Baumstown, PA to Samuel and Bessie (Freyberger) Hadley. He married Carol Rugen on December 22, 1972 in Germany. Samuel served in the US Army from 1945 to 1975, where he attained the rank of Sergeant Major, and worked at the Argonne National Laboratory. He was also adjutant with the American Legion. He served during WWII, where he received the WWII Victory Medal, and received a Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Occupation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Act of Gallantry for his service in Vietnam. After leaving the military, Samuel was also a substitute bus driver for Milton Pope, Rutland, Wallace, and Marquette, and was the janitor at St. Joseph's church in Marseilles. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, Pleiku Pals, and the Occidental Lodge AF and AM.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Marseilles, a son, Hans (Maryann Shand) Hadley, of Saugerties, NY, 3 daughters, Julie (Mack) Dillard, of Tampa, FL, Catherine Hadley, of Delta Junction, AK, and Carolyn Hadley, of Marseilles, 7 grandchildren, Jessica Bishop, Wayne Benett, Justin Hadley, Zachary and Andrew Vereb, and Jordan and Trey Dillard, a great grandson, Joseph Bishop, a brother Herbert (Mildred) Hadley, of Birdsboro, PA, and a sister, Miriam Fletcher, of Birdsboro, PA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Cynthia, a son Samuel H. Hadley III, a grandson, Dylan Hadley, a brother and 3 sisters.
Pallbearers will be Danny and Mike Fletcher, Doug Bulen, George Delph, Elmer Both, and Gordon Green
Memorials may be directed to the American Legion, or Hope For All.
