Frances Anne Gobble Atkinson, age 75, of 157 East Hillcrest Drive, Mountain City, Tennessee passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 13, 2008 in Watauga County Medical Center, Boone, North Carolina after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was the daughter of the late Paul Samuel Gobble, Sr. and Grace Goodman Gobble. Ms. Atkinson was a member of First Baptist Church of Mountain City. Fran was the owner and general manager of Johnson County Broadcasting and WMCT Radio. She was an original member of the Johnson County Memorial Hospital Board, one of the founders of Safe Haven, chaired the Bicentennial Parade in Mountain City in 1996, began the White Christmas Program that evolved into Helping Hands, hosted WMCT one-on-one with Fran Atkinson on Tuesdays, received the Tennessee Hospital Association Community Service Award in 1999, and she would keep the radio station on during emergency situations. December 8, 2000 was officially designation "Fran" Atkinson Day in the Town of Mountain City and Johnson County and many other accolades. Her hobbies included reading, bird watching, helping other people and she was an active participant in the Johnson County Republican Women Committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Atkinson on November 2, 1969; one daughter, Frances Anne Atkinson on November 2, 2002; one sister, Margia Gobble Wiggins; and one nephew, Justin Alexander Hollaway.

Survivors include: one daughter: Janice Atkinson Russell of Mountain City, Tennessee; two sisters: Janice Gobble Harry of Bristol, Tennessee and Nancy Gobble Hollaway of Newton, North Carolina; two brothers: Paul Samuel Gobble, Jr. of Mountain City, Tennessee and Harold Graves Gobble of Richland, Michigan; special adopted son: Larry Greason, of Piney Flats, Tennessee; two grandchildren: Elizabeth Anne Russell and Emma Grace Russell both of Mountain City, Tennessee; one special friend and sister of the heart: Venia Stout of Mountain City, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Frances Anne Gobble Atkinson will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 from the First Baptist Church with Rev. Rickey Campbell and Rev. Lonnie Denney officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2008 from Sunset Memorial Park in Mountain City, Tennessee. Active pallbearers will be Larry Greason, Rusty Russell, Ian Prudhomme, Christian Prudhomme, Ralph Jenkins, Jack Cress, Steve Arnold and Carl Stout. Honorary pallbearers will be Judge Lynn W. Brown, Staff of WMCT Radio, Rev. Norm Reece, Coach Harold Arnold and John Stout. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson County Public Library, %Linda Icenhour, P.O. Box 107, Mountain City, Tennessee 37683.
