Born Canterbury, Victoria; son of Henry William & Martha Swan of Canterbury, Victoria, Australia. Arthur enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 7 February 1916. He embarked from Melbourne for active service overseas on 23 November 1916 aboard HMAT "Hororata" (A20). He died of illness on board HMAT "Hororata" (A20) in Sierra Leone Harbour, aged 24 years.
