Ms. Geraldine Abernathy went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, Maryland. She was the 11th child born to the late Perry and Mary Thilda Carter (Eggleston) Abernathy. She was also preceded in death by eight siblings: Thomas, Horace, Mary (Sis), Dennis, Perry King, Alma, Nellie and Frank.

She was best known as “Aunt Tump,” “Mama Gerre” and “GG.” She confessed a hope in Christ at the age of 12 and joined Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church and later was baptized and united with Bethel Colbert Missionary Baptist Church, in Leighton, Alabama, where she served faithfully on the Usher Board and as the church clerk until her health started to decline.

She retired from the Colbert County Court House, Tuscumbia, Alabama after 20 years of dedicated service as a Tax Accessor Clerk.

She leaves to cherish her memories:
Three loving daughters: Doretta Abernathy of Atlanta, Georgia; Lavetta Porter of Fairfield, California; Gerilyn (Paul) Wood of Brandywine, Maryland. One devoted son- Kevin Thompson of Muscle Shoals, Alabama. One devoted foster daughter- Tiffany Turner of Nashville, Tennessee. Two loving sisters: Lillie Fort of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Helen Spearmon of Leighton, Alabama. Fifteen grandchildren, twelve great- grand children, One sister-in-law: Lorain Abernathy of Muscle Shoals, Alabama; One brother-in-law: Thomas Fuqua of Rogersville, Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, and special friends: Mr. & Mrs. Mose McLean of Tuscumbia, Alabama; Class of 1963- Leighton Training School.
