Charles B. HOWE, well known retired farmer of Steamboat Springs away Sunday at Palisade, Colorado several months. He was 75 years of age.
Services are being held this afternoon at the Root mortuary with Rev. S. T. Freeman of the Euzoa Congregational church officiating. Interment will be made in the Steamboat cemetery.
Ben HOWE, widely known in Routt county, was born at New York Mills, New York, February 27, came from New York to Sterling, Colorado, 63 years ago with his parents where he and his family farmed.
Mr. HOWE met and married Sarah PREEO of Beloit, Kansas, in 1916. They moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado, where they homesteaded and lived in that vicinity for 20 years. The family then moved to Yampa in 1937 where they resided until moving to Steamboat Springs in 1944.
To this union 10 children were born - two preceding him in death - Wesley Francis HOWE, who was killed in World War II in Sicily and Martha Ellen HOWE. He is survived by his wife, Sarah; two sisters, Nellie DAHLENBURG of Curtis, Nebraska, and Cora HATCH of Stoneham, Colorado; one brother, Edgar HOWE of Detroit, Michigan; three sons, Raymond HOWE, of Yuma, Arizona, Charles HOWE of Steamboat Springs, and Stephen HOWE of Steamboat Springs; five daughters, Mrs. Aaron JOHNS of RocKford, South Dakota, Mrs. Fred SOTER of Estes Park, Colorado, Mrs. Raymond KLUMKER, Mrs. Derald MILES and Mrs. Melvin COMPESTINE, all of Steamboat, and 10 grandchildren.
At the funeral Muriel Bowen sang, "Shall We Gather at the River" and "In the Garden," accompanied by Marguerite See.
The pallbearers were Don HARSH, Delbert BOSTOCK, Leslie SNOWDEN, Clarence MILES, Lloyd GILROY and William KLUMKER. Interment was in the Steamboat Springs cemetery.
