Mildred Evelyn Carter Beck, 78, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, July 24, 2015, after her long battle with cancer at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born July 22, 1937 in Hopkins County, KY to the late Fon and Geneva Riggs Carter.

Mildred was married to CSM (Ret) Harold D. Beck on July 9, 1962 and was a loving and devoted wife and mother. During their 53 year marriage, Mildred traveled extensively as an Army Wife and was active in many organizations. She was instrumental in the effective operation of the 173D Airborne Brigade waiting wives club on the US Territory Island of Okinawa as well as the Sergeants Major Wives Club at Ft. Campbell, KY. She was an instrumental force in her husband’s success and 25 year career in the United States Army, receiving a Certificate of Achievement for her support and service. She was also co-owner of B & B Wallcoverings until retirement with her husband in 1997.

Aside from her parents, he is preceded in death by her brothers, Wilsey Carter and Fon Carter, Jr. and two sisters, Dorothy Mae Sapp and Mary Alice Stewart.

She is survived by her husband Harold D. Beck of Owensboro, two daughters, Vicki Darlene Barnett of Dawson Springs and Lesa Diane Mullen of Hopkinsville, two sons, Ronald Dale Hibdon of Owensboro and David Lee Beck of Norfolk, VA, six grandchildren, Gregory J. Barnett, Joseph (Brooke) Barnett, Rhonda Hibdon, Johnathan Embry, Shane (Becca) Lancaster and Christina (Michael) Cornelius, fourteen great-grandchildren, two brothers, Charles Carter and David Carter of Madisonville and two sisters, Helen Lamb of Madisonville and Joyce Carter of Owensboro.

Services will be 3 p.m. Monday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home with entombment to follow in Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home and after 12 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
