Bio by his sister, Penny:

A native Floridian, Gene was born in Miami, but he lived most of his younger years in Jacksonville. Upon graduation from Paxon High School, he enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard and served for 20 years as a “Coastie”. He was so proud of his service with the Coast Guard, and he had many wonderful memories of serving his country and protecting the U. S. coastlines as well as to being overseas.

Gene leaves behind 4 children, 3 step children and 1 granddaughter.

Gene has been cremated. His ashes were scattered on the beach in Coca Beach, FL behind his favorite bar. He and his son spent many hours there enjoying each's company. It was there that he entertained the patrons by making balloon animals, halos, birds, hats, and other things. He brought smiles to the faces of many and was loved for this talent. As per his request, Gene did not have a funeral. Plans are being made to have a family dinner near his November birthday at the Olive Garden Restaurant in Jacksonville in celebration of his life.

~~~~~~~~~~
A limb has fallen from the family tree,
I keep hearing a voice that says "Grieve not for me."
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song,
The good life lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you,
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest,
Remembering all, now I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small,
Go on with your life, don't just stare at the wall.
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin,
Until the day comes we're together again.
