Deborah DeTrent 1960 - 2008 Memorial services celebrating the life of Deborah L. "Deb" DeTrent, 47, of Davenport, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008, at St. John's United Methodist Church in Davenport. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded as was her request. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements. Deb died peacefully in her home on March 22, 2008, surrounded by the love and support of her family. We find comfort in knowing she will be reunited with her father and will once again be healthy and pain-free.
Deb's life cannot be measured by the amount of years she lived, but instead, the amount of memories she helped to create. She spent her whole life making sure her family and friends were happy and well taken care of. She will live on through every person she touched.
Admirably, Deb was a woman who believed in hard work. After graduating from West High in 1979, she enrolled in cosmetology school. She did hair for several years, but decided to leave the business and simply cut hair on the side. Deb devoted the past 10 years putting her heart and soul into her new careers. As a loyal employee of Hy-Vee, she loved to ice doughnuts and chat with the regulars. Deb also worked at Buchanan Elementary where she supported the learning of the young children as a para-educator. She loved her work, and she loved those with which she worked.
Aside from her work, Deb emmersed herself in the love of her family. She grew up closest to her sister, Kathy, and her sister's husband, Tom. They were best of friends who laughed together and cried together. Every experience Deb had in her life was shared with her sister. The biggest endeavor they shared was the raising of their children. Deb welcomed her first daughter, Julie, into the world on Feb. 19, 1982. Over the years, they became inseparable. Deb inspired Julie to become a teacher and supported her through the journey of marriage and motherhood. Deb welcomed her two grandbabies into the world, Shane, on March 31, 2005, and Cody, on July 20, 2006. They soon became her pride and Joy.
Deb welcomed her second daughter, Mollie, into the world on May 1, 1991. As Mollie grew, so did their relationship. Deb was so proud to have such a beautiful and talented daughter. We all know she will be supporting Mollie as she enters adulthood and experiences the endless milestones of her life.
Deborah Lynne DeTrent was born December 31, 1960, in Davenport, the daughter of Samuel and Katherine (Bishop) DeTrent. She will be missed and remembered by those who survive her: Two daughters, Julie (Mrs. Dan) McMullen, of St. Louis, Mo., and Mollie DeTrent, of Davenport; her mother, Katherine, of Eldridge; her sister, Katherine (Mrs. Thomas) Sigler, of Davenport; two brothers, Samuel Sr. (Libbie) DeTrent, of Rock Island, and Joe DeTrent, of Eldridge; two grandsons, Shane and Cody; and several nieces and nephews, Kate DeTrent, Jenna DeTrent, Tawni DeTrent, Sam DeTrent, Brannon DeTrent, Capt. Nicholas Sigler, and Shawn Sigler.
She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Detrent, in December 1998.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family or to an education fund for Mollie.
The family would like to extend a special note of thanks to all of the Genesis Medical and Hospice staff for all of the love and support they showed Deb along this journey.
