Miss Ida Gwynn Edwards, 94, of 377 Old Dominion Road, Ararat, VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, July 23, 2015, at her home. Miss Edwards was born August 27, 1920, in Carroll County, VA, one of five children born to the late Tom and Hassie Gwynn Edwards. Ida retired from Spencer's Inc. after 52 years of dedicated service. She was a member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church and The Ladies' Fellowship Circle as long as her health permitted. She is survived by her companion, Margaret G. Coalson of the home; a sister, Margaret "Violet" O'Neal of Winston-Salem; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Ruby Edwards of Cana, VA; a niece, Dr. Jeanne Edwards of Hillsville, VA; a nephew, Paul O'Neal, Jr. and his wife, Lucy, of Pfafftown; a great niece, Margaret "Maggie" O'Neal of Winston-Salem; three great nephews, Paul O'Neal, III of Thomasville, and Bob O'Neal and Michael O'Neal, both of Winston-Salem; a goddaughter and her daughter, Amy T. Heit and Raven of Augusta, GA; and her special friends, David and Janie Dawson of Cana, VA. In addition to her parents, Miss Edwards was preceded in death by two brothers, John Thomas Edwards and William Howard Edwards; and a brother-in-law, Paul O'Neal, Sr. The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Mount Bethel Moravian Church, with the Rev. Charles Fishel and the Rev. Steven Corn officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5:00 until 7:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by her caregivers, Julia Barr and Delma Bryant.
