Jerry Lee Griffith, 83, passed away Wednesday July 23, 2015 at Allen County Hospital in Iola, Kan. Jerry was born on May 29, 1932 in Iola, to Thomas Griffith and Ethel (Deaton) Griffith.

On December 23, 1968 Jerry married Sheila Overman. He served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. Jerry owned and operated Griffith Backhoe and Ditching for many years. He was a member of Operating Engineer Local 101 for 40 plus years. Jerry was a member of the VFW in Chanute, and the Chanute American Legion. He served on the Humboldt City Council many years.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, Tommy, H.L., Bill, John, Ronald “Dean”, and Richard “Dick”Griffith, three sisters, Meara Jean and Joyce Ann Griffith, and Sharon Shea.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sheila, of the home; his son Deon Griffith and his fiancée Beth Geyer, Topeka, Kan.; his daughter Renda Nichols of Texas; his sister, Mary Lou Wilson, Chanute two grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 10 am at the Countryside Funeral Home-Humboldt Chapel, 908 Central in Humboldt. Visitation will be held Monday, July 29 from 6-8 pm at Countryside Funeral Home Humboldt Chapel. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors provided by the Chanute American Legion.
