He married his first wife, Katherine Dorothea Denecke in Brelingen, in lower Saxony, Germany 9th of May 1827.
And yes, his first and second wives both have the exact same first and middle names.
With his first wife he had 4 children that came with him to Texas:
Catherine Dorothea 'Kat' 1827-1899
Diedrich 1827-about 1850
Henriette 1832-1900
'Dorette' Dorothea 1838-1927
I do not know the exact date of the death of his first wife, but he married his second wife, Catharina Dorothea Moeller in Helstorf, in Lower Saxony on the 26th of May 1843.
He immigrated with his family on the 27th of November 1845 and settled in the New Braunfels area.
At first, most of his income was from carpentry, and he did continue to make most, if not all, of the furniture that was needed by his family and even his grandchildren.
By the time he was 60 however, he was listed as a 'Farmer' and lived on property outside of town. He did well enough in his pursuits that he was able to leave a large herd of purebred cattle to his children when he died. (At that time, purebred cattle were quite rare)
