Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, at Edgewood Baptist Church. Interment will take place at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church, Rock Island.
Preston was born on Dec. 19, 1925, the son of Lee and Cora Stevens Collier. He was a veteran of Worl War II, having served with the Marines in the Pacific Theatre. He married Velma Slaten on Nov. 6, 1950, in Booneville, Ark.
Preston worked as a machine operator at Farmall in Rock Island, retiring in 1982 after 32 years of service. He was a Chicago Cubs fan, and he also enjoyed going to South Park Mall to walk and vacations out west with his son, David. he was a wonderful husband and father.
Survivors (and spouses) include his wife, Velma, Rock Island, son David, Rock Island; brother Eugene (Geraldine) Collier, rock Island; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Dick Edlund, Moline. His parents, and a sister; Velma, preceded him in death.
