Cora Phillips Root, 630 East Avenue Rochester, died September 23, 1977. Mrs. Root was formerly from Victor.
She was graduated from Victor High School in 1919 and from Genesee Hospital in 1923. She was head nurse until 1925. Then she went to Women's Hospital in New York City for a post graduate course in obstetrics. Returning to Strong Memorial Hospital, she became the first head nurse in obstetrics.
She married in 1927. During all her married life and until the last few months she belonged to a Book Club where she gave book reviews. She was a member of the Copeland Circle of Genesee Hospital and was very active in the Asbury Methodist Church.
Survivors are her daughter, Mrs. Alois (Betty) Froelicher of Penfield; a son, Charles A. Root of Lewisburg, PA; granchildren, James, Barbara, Robert, Martha, Warren and Nancy Froelicher, and David and Stephen Root; three sisters, Mrs. Herbert (Emily) Renaud, Marion Phillips, Mrs. Preston (Margaret) Fisher; two brothers, Raymond and Charles Phillips, all of Victor and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Tuesday morning at 11 am at the Asbury First Methodist Church.
