David Hartley Magill (son of David Magill), b. 1866; never married; d. suddenly 1927 of thrombosis, is buried in First Broughshane Presbyterian cem. He and his brother George Neill Magill went to Australia about 1880, entered the sheep farming business and became wealthy. George remained there, but David returned to Broughshane about 1919. He demolished the old Magill house to make way for a new one, designed by Young and Mackenzie, Architects, Belfast. "It is beautifully finished inside with Australian silky oak panel ling specially imported from Australia, and is one of the nicest houses in Northern Ireland. David and George Magill paid for the erection of a magnificient wing to Waverney Hospital, Ballymena, Ireland, in which is Magill Ward, given and named in memory of their father. The Magills were keenly interested in the First Broughshane Presbyterian Church, and were largely responsible for its reconstruction in 1925-26. David planned the building of a Church Hall, but died suddenly of angina before the work was begun and George caused the work to be completed as planned."
