Mrs. Joe Huffaker, 39, wife of Joseph Huffaker, attorney, ended life shortly after 8 o'clock Thursday morning with a pistol shot at her home on the Cane Run Road, near Greenwood Lane. Mr. Huffaker was formerly Commonwealth's attorney. They were married about a year ago.

Mr. Huffaker and his nephew, Edward Slaughter, were in the yard of home, preparing to drive to the city, when the deed was committed. Slaughter's wife, Mrs. Grace Slaughter was on the rear porch. The three rushed upstairs and found Mrs. Huffaker dying on the floor of the bath room. Dr. M.S. Allen, Dixie Highway, was summoned out, Mrs. Huffaker died before he arrived. The bullet pierced her heart.

Mrs. Huffaker had been in ill health for a year, it is said. Besides her husband, she is survived by a brother, John Lear, and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Harris and Mrs. Dollie Miller.

County police said the case was one of suicide.

Mrs. Huffaker planned to leave this morning for a week's visit at the home of her niece, Mrs. Stanley Beams, 2404 Cedar st. After eating her breakfast she went upstairs to pack her traveling bags and prepare for her departure. She completed her preparations to leave before ending her life.

A native of Shelbyville, Mrs. Huffaker was the daughter of the late James and Mary Lear.
