Lawrence E. "Larry" Yarber, 77, 2784 South 6th Street Road, Vincennes, died Thursday, March 5, at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

He was born Oct. 29, 1937, to Lawrence "Mutt" and Ethel Pickett Yarber in St. Francisville, Illinois. He married Janet "Jan" Vieke on Dec. 30, 1961.

Larry served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963 and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany.

Larry worked for Brock Monument; Homes Plumbing, in the oil fields, Reed's Cabinet, as a custodian with the Vincennes Community School Corporation and farmed with E & H Vieke, Inc. He also drove a school bus for South Knox School Corporation and Vincennes Community School Corporation for 32 years before retiring in 2002.

Larry loved being with all his grandchildren and family, tinkering with old vehicles, playing cards down at the toll bridge, going to St. Francisville; and on weekends having cookouts at Lake Lawrence; and cookouts and playing baseball with all the family at his in-laws home. He also loved working in his garage and sorting and tearing apart old junk that people would drop off to him.

Larry was a member of the American Legion and Old Cathedral Catholic Church.

He is surved by his wife of 53 years, Jan; his children, Richard Yarber of Linton, Larry E. Yarber, Jr. and Jason C. Yarber of Vincennes; his grandchildren, Rick Yarber, Sullivan; Bryan Yarber and Lynn, Robinson, Illinois; Steven Ross and Nichole, Jarrett, Lodan, Kodee and Dannielle Yarber, all of Vincennes, and Dylan Yarber of Saginaw, Michigan; and his great-grandchildren, Jaiden, Dominic, Olivia, Ashton and Lincoln Yarber; Kaitlyn, Lerick and Sawyer Ross; and one great-grandchild on the way.

Larry is also survived by his sister, Joan Darnold Wease of Bridgeport, Illinois; step-brother Ray "Skeeter" Glenn and Dora of St. Francisville, Illinois and sisters-in-aw,
Barbara Yarber, Lawrenceville, and Dottie M. Vieke, of Vincennes; step-sister-in-law Barbara Kohlhouse, of Vincennes; brothers-in-law, Ronald F. Vieke and Judy; Robert R. Vieke; John D. Vieke and Cherie; sisters-in-law, Helen M. Stiles and Steve of Vincennes, Sharon L. Carie and Dave of Washington; and Pat D. Ragsdale and Bill of Elnora.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin "Babe" Yarber; half-brothers Freddie "Sonny" Clark of Lawrenceville; Lawrence Michael "Pee Wee" Yarber; of St. Francisville, granddaughter, Chloe D. Yarber, brothers-in-law Donald E. Vieke and William "Bill" Vieke of Vincennes, and his parents, Lawrence "Mutt" Yarber and step-mother, Wanda Yarber, St. Francisville, and Ethel Pickett Yarber of Lawrenceville, step-brother Gary Kohlhouse, Vincennes and step-sister Karen Kohlhouse Wease, St. Francisville. Larry was proud of his many nieces and nephews.

Honoring Larry's wishes, his body was donated to the Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana, so there will be no visitation.

A memorial Mass in his honor will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 21 at Old Cathedral Catholic Church, 2nd and Church St., in Vincennes. A bereavement meal will be held following the Mass at the Old Cathedral Parish Center, 100 S. Third Street. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.
