William was born on Friday, October 28, 1938 in Rockingham County, North Carolina to the late Roy L. Broadnax and Orena V. Broadnax. He was the third oldest of nine children. William attended Rockingham County public schools of North Carolina.

In September 1961 he moved to Washington D.C. William worked as a dishwasher at the Pentagon and a waiter at a Hot Shoppe before he began his career at Giant Food grocery store. On March 7, 1964, he married his lovely wife (as he would adoringly say) Sarah M. Millner, and to this union two sons and one daughter were born, William P. Broadnax, Monique L. Broadnax, and Keith R. Broadnax. William was a devoted family man.

William was a hard worker. He worked at Giant Food grocery store for 40 years and retired in April 2004. After retirement his children often poked fun at him about a neighbor that wore a Safeway hat (competitor grocery store) when he exercised. William’s children would challenge their dad to put on his Giant Food hat and exercise with the neighbor. Most of you are probably wondering…did William exercise with the neighbor? No, he never exercised with the neighbor. However, William had a great sense of humor and enjoyed his children’s and grandchild, Lil Keith’s antics.

William liked working with his hands. God truly blessed him with this gift. William could fix anything. One time he fixed Sarah’s laptop and his children wondered how he did it, since he refused to learn how to use one. He loved fixing cars, the Dallas Cowboys football team (which he successfully encouraged all the grandkids to be fans), and he liked being outside. Most family, friends, and neighbors remember him tinkering around in the yard. The garage and yard was his “man cave”.
He leaves to cherish his many memories; his wife, Sarah, three children: William P. Broadnax- Bey, Monique Broadnax, and Keith Broadnax- Bey, two daughter-in-laws, Sherri Broadnax- Bey and Roda Broadnax- Bey, survived by five siblings, Betty Sudler, Thomas Broadnax, Jesse Broadnax, Joseph “Michael” Broadnax, and Ronald Broadnax, eight grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015, at Integrity Church International, 7600 Landover Road Landover, Landover, Maryland 20785, at 10AM. Service at 11AM. Interment will follow at Parklawn Cemetery, in Rockville, Maryland. Arrangements by J.B. Jenkins Funeral Home, Inc.
