Mrs. Rhoda Weaver, honored and well known elderly resident of Sycamore, passed away early Monday morning at the Sycamore hospital where she was taken Sunday night at 10:30 o'clock when stricken suddenly ill. Her death, which was due to an embolism, comes as a shock to her family and friends, as she was seemingly in her usual good health.

Rhoda Ann Kelton was born May 2, 1868, in Jasper County Iowa, and was the daughter of Charles Kelton and Margaret Ann McQuillin. When three years old, she came to Kirkland with her mother and in that community she was reared, and attended school in Franklin Township. She was united in marriage to Jesse C. Weaver of Kirkland and lived in and around Kirkland for many years, then moved to Sycamore. Mr. Weaver died in 1929. To this union were born three children, Earl Weaver of Des Plaines, Mrs. Earl (Lavina) Wylde of Sycamore and Oscar Weaver, also of this city and with whom she had made her home for a while. Her recent 80th birthday anniversary on May 2, was pleasantly observed with an open house at the home of her son, Oscar Weaver and wife.

She was a devoted mother and a kind neighbor and friend and will be sadly missed in family circles, also among her many friends. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, the Sarah Rebekah Lodge, Potter Womans Relief Corps and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a lover of flowers and also was very talented with the needle having done many beautiful pieces of fancy work.

Surviving her demise besides her children are four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, also two sisters, Mrs. Stella Petrie of this city and Mrs. Ella Rorabaugh of Beloit, Wis., and four brothers, Leroy, Ralph and William Strawn of Belvidere and Harvey Strawn of Kirkland. A brother, Charles Strawn died two years ago and a sister, Mrs. Walter Weaver preceded her in death. The passing of her eldest grandson, Elroy Wylde, who was killed in the Bougainville area during World War II, was a great grief and shock to her.
