Capt. Thomas Hardy
Obit: We are pained to announce the death of Capt. Thomas Hardy, of Clark County, Illinois, which occurred in a most shocking manner at Melrose on Wednesday. He was caught by the circular saw in a mill owned by himself, his arm was sawed off and his head cut in two, the stroke passing diagonally across the face, separating the eyes. Capt. Hardy was the first child born in Clark county. He served in the 79th Illinois during the war--was in Libby Prison, dug out with Streight, was recaptured and afterwards as a prisoner, was placed under fire of the rebel guns at Charleston. His unfortunate death is morned by a large
circle of friends.
