John Wesley Cook
John Wesley Cook, 69, died at 9:11 p.m. Sunday at his home, 717 Mobile street.
He was born Sept. 15, 1873, in Lafayette county, Mississippi, son of Tom and Martha Cook. He was employed by the Illinois Central railroad for 40 years, and had lived in Waterloo since Aug. 3, 1913. He married Lillie J. Brown on April 7, 1940, in Waterloo. He had been married twice previously, both of the other wives having preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, one son, McKinley, of 415 Beech street; one daughter, Mrs. Alma McDonald, of Independence; two sisters, Mrs. Daisy Stokes of Water Valley, Miss., and Mrs. Nellie Wilson of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandsons and two granddaughters.
Mr. Cook was a member of the African Methodist church and of St. John’s Negro Masonic lodge 35.
The body was taken to the Kistner funeral home.
