Walter Nicholas Strickland PhD was born in Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) on February 15, 1930 and passed away on July 17, 2015.

Nick earned his PhD in Genetics in Glasgow, Scotland and furthered his education at Stanford University, California.

He was a genetics professor in Cape Town, South Africa and the University of Utah. He both taught and did research.

Nick was an avid outdoorsman and travelled around the world. He especially loved watching birds. His greatest love was spending time in Southern Utah and he was instrumental in laying the ground work for the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument.

Nick was kind, generous, and was beloved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Heidi Strickland; daughter, Gina Strickland (Mike Uri); son, Robert (Amy) Strickland, step-children, Dan (Erin) Belnap, Melanie Lyons, Angela Belnap, and Debbie (Dave) Barlow; and eleven grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Jessica Lissaman and Maud Blair. He was preceded in death by his previous wife, Marie Strickland; and his brother, Robert Strickland.

We want to express many thanks to the love and care given to Nick by the Legacy Memory and Rehabilitation centers.

Friends may visit from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2015 at 5533 Eastview Drive, Kearns. A small memorial service for close friends and family will follow at 7:00 p.m.
Interment will follow a graveside service on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. in the Bloomington Cemetery, Bloomington, Idaho.
