.... "Thomas Kitchen, one of the oldest employees of the New York Central at Suspension Bridge was run over and killed in the yards near the N. Y. C. freight house at at about 7 o'clock last Thursday evening. He had just turned the switch for engine 308 to go to the water tank, and as he stepped off on to another track to let it pass, he was struck by engine 118, which was backing down on the track where he stood. He was standing in the center of the track and the engine struck him, knocking him down and crushing him in a terrible manner inflicting a deep gash in his head and breaking one leg in two places. No one saw him and he made no outcry and the accident was not discovered by his companions until after engine 118 had passed.

He was about 50 years of age and had worked for the Central over twenty years. He was a steady, industrious man, a member of Branch 2, C. M. B. A., and had the respect of the entire community. He leaves a widow, five sons, John, Henry, Michael, James and Thomas, and one daughter, Mrs. Edward Quinn. The funeral was observed on Sunday last."
