John Bisbee was 17 years old when his father and entire family moved from Bridgewater, Mass. to Sumner, Maine and settled. Later he moved to a farm of his own in Sumner between the two Labrador Ponds where he remained 48 1/2 years. He was both a farmer and blacksmith and known as "Uncle Johnny." He was not careful about his appearance; was a great bear and fox hunter.
