William Absolom Jones was born about 1861 in the Zion Hill Community of Union Parish Louisiana, the son of Thomas D. Jones and S. Jane Beaird. Both parents died soon after his birth, and the circumstances of their deaths remain unclear. William was raised by his maternal grandparents, William and Zilpha Beaird, and his maternal aunt and uncle, Elizabeth Beaird and Stephen Jackson Beaird, both unmarried siblings of his mother. In 1869, William Beaird gave 320 acres of his plantation jointly to William A. Jones and Beaird's two unmarried children, Elizabeth and Stephen. Many years later, in concern for her property as she reached an advanced age, Elizabeth Beaird gave 80 acres of land to William A. Jones:

"...in consideration for the love and affection she has and bears for her nephew William A. Jones... for his obedience and for the love and affection he manifests for her..."

William Absolom Jones married on 12 January 1888 in Union Parish to Elnora Sessions (1868-1953). They had three sons prior to William's premature death on 21 May 1896. Farmerville's "The Gazette" printed this brief notice of his death in its issue of 27 May 1896:

"Mr. William Jones, of ward six, died last Thursday after a brief illness."

Ella remarried in January 1898 to William's first cousin, Stephen Jackson Beaird, Jr.
