Staff Sgt. Andres J. Contreras of Huntington Park, California was the first child of Jonathan Sr and Norma Contreras. Despite his father trying to steer him in another direction, Contreras joined in 2000 and re-enlisted after three years of service. He planned to be a sheriff by age 25. A squad leader for the 258th Military Police Company "Gators" of the 519th Military Police Battalion, died when his truck was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device in Baghdad. He would have turned 24 the following day. On his birthday, he was going to come home and planned to go to Disneyland with the family. Jo Jo had a gift of putting soldiers at ease and his love for his 4-year-old daughter, Grace. His new Mustang had her name decaled in English on the passenger's side. Because that's where she sits. He was a simple man who tried to make a difference. He is survived by his daughter; his mother, Norma; his brothers Hernan, Carlos, Dannyel, Noel and Cesar; and his father. He was 23.
