Mrs. Margaret Besant, 54, wife of Killian G. Besant of 551 Bingham Avenue died today, August 17, 1940 at 11 a.m. at the War Memorial Hospital. She was admitted to the hospital a week ago for an emergency appendectomy.
Mrs. Besant was born August 18, 1885 in the Sault, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. N.V. Gabriel. Mr. Gabriel was one of the city's earliest furniture dealers and undertakers.
She was married 31 years ago to Killian G. Besant at Philadelphia. The Besant's returned six years ago and have made their home here since.
Mrs. Besant attended Sault schools and completed her education at Chatham and Windsor academies for girls where she became an accomplished pianist.
Surviving Mrs. Besant besides her husband is a sister, Miss Agnes Gabriel and two brothers, Joseph and Victor Gabriel all of the Sault.
She was a member of St. Mary's church, the Altar Society and the League of the Sacred Heart.
Funeral services have been tentatively set for Tuesday with services at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church and burial in Riverside cemetery.
The body will lie in state at the family residence.
