Jessie M. Pruitt, age 69, died at his residence on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He was born on November 19, 1945, in Laurel County, Kentucky, the son of the late William "Bill" and Cora Mae Allen Pruitt. On February 28, 1975, he was united in marriage to Edna Bentley Pruitt, who survives of East Bernstadt. He is also survived by five children: Rick Jesse Pruitt and wife, Lisa, of London, Randy Hiwatha Pruitt and wife, Sandy, and Raymond Pruitt, all of Indianapolis, Edna Rose Hampton and husband, Rick, and Jason Pruitt, all of East Bernstadt, three brothers Robert Pruitt and wife, Shirley, Tommy Pruitt, Edward Pruitt and wife, Loretta, one sister: Helen Dorris and husband, Jack, all of Indianapolis, seven grandchildren: Ricky Jesse Morgan and wife, Nikki, Timothy Mack Morgan and wife, Shae, Cody Roger Pruitt, Jessie James Hampton, Jasmine Nicole Hampton, Mackenzie Claire Hampton and Caleb Pruitt, three great-grandchildren: Aaron, Kelci and Colton Morgan, good long time friends: Alvin Monk Irvin and Burton Bentley, a special nephew, Shelby Bustle, of London, plus a host of other nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives to mourn his passing. In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by three sisters: Alsey Gilbert, Beulah Congleton and Roxanne Pruitt, four brothers: Jim Pruitt and wife, Ruth, Daniel Pruitt, and wife, Ethel, Ray Pruitt and Joel Pruitt and wife, Margaret, and a sister-in-law: Betty Pruitt.
In April 1963, he began work as a roofer for Smither Company in Indianapolis and retired in 2004. He was a member of Hazel Patch Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday in the Bowling Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Bingham officiating. Burial will follow in the Pruitt Family Cemetery at East Bernstadt.
The family will receive friends at Bowling Funeral Home after 12 Noon Saturday.
