Rev. Willie Herbert Matthews, age 90 who resided at 403 Allen Street in Thomaston passed away on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Upson Regional Hospital. The family may be contacted at the home of his daughter-in-law, Janice Strickland at 969 W. Moores Crossing Road. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Mary AME Church. Rev. Raphael Lamar Allen is pastor and Elder Benjamin Ridley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Southview cemetery. Bentley’s Funeral Home is in charge of all professional services.

Matthews is survived by eight children: Willie Matthews, Jr., of Franklin, GA; Ophelia Colquitt of Fayetteville, GA; John Allen Matthews of Mississippi; Macker Strickland (Carolyn) of Manchester, GA; Johnny Lee Henry of Newnan, GA; Mark Henry of Molena, GA; Tracey Hicks and Steven Hicks both of Musella, GA; 5 grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ruth Harris of Boston, MA; a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
