Son of Joseph Abraham (1850–1929) and Justina Augusta Jackowska (1849–1890), who sailed from Breman Germany to Baltimore MD on ship "Hermann", arriving Apr 1 1881, when Joseph was age 31. Paul's mother died in 1890, when he was about six years. His father remarried to Mary Anna Noll, who helped raise Paul to adulthoood. Joseph was a blacksmith, and moved his family from Sparta, Illinois to Wein, Missouri, after the death of his wife, Augusta.

Married Magdalena "Lena" Schuette Nov 5 1912, Shelby MO. She was born Feb 21 1888 in Missouri, and died June 3 1917 in Day Co., South Dakota.
